film poster history and set of rules
Film posters always existed since before the apparition of cinema. Film posters were used by theatres to promote their shows. In the 40’s and 50’s colour was mainly dominating in the poster and the name of the actor was written in big colourful capital letters. In the 60’s and 70’s more space was started to be given to images in the poster most of the images were “painting” representing one of the scenes in the movie. In the 80’s different ways of illustration were introduced but many blockbusters decided to keep the classic “painting” e.g Indiana jones. In the nineties, the compositions with photographic images of the actors clearly prevails on artistic illustrations, graphics research became marginal. The posters are rare to remember, we can mention for example on The Silence of the Lambs or American Beauty.
My genre has a very particular type of posters. The 2 poster which my poster will look mostly alike will be the ones of paranormal activity and grave encounters.
there are set of rules i shall follow in order to enable my poster to be successful and to attract viewers.
Rule 1 : the prevailing colour must be black
Rule2: the title needs to be very visible and of bright colours
Rule 3: there must be an image of the movie as main picture. Possibly the picture of a place rather than a person
Rule 4 : reviews must be introduced in the poster. (e.g “don’t see alone” … “fear is real” etc.)
Rule 5 : credits must be placed at the bottom of the poster.

film magazine audience research
The audience for film magazines is usually very wide. It can be from movie actors to movie producers to the viewer or the occasional reader. These magazines are for everyone type of audience but with some preferences towards some type of audience. Most of the film magazines are more addressed to males rather than females this is because most of the time the big blockbusters are action movies such as transformer etc. furthermore as the preferred audience for these movies are males also the newspaper needs to adapt itself. News paper are very important also for the movie industry as the are able , through their reviews, to motivate or demotivate the reader to watch a specific movie. Furthermore the influence that movie magazines have on the audience is fairly big and as a consequence they also play an important role in a movie’s failure or success.

2. SET OF FONT TEST.
SET OF FONT TEST FOR MY MOVIE TRAILER.
HERE ITS SHOWN A SET OF DIFFERENT FONTS WHICH WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR MY MOVIE TITLE AS WELL AS THE OPENING TITLES (E.g "COMING SOON"). OUT OF THE SET I DECIDED TO USE THE LAST FONT.BASKERVILLE.
MY DECISION WAS BASED UPON OTHER FONTS THAT HAVE BEEN USED FOR MOVIES LIKE MINE SUCH AS GRAVE ENCOUNTERS. THIS FONT IS VERY EASY TO READ AND WITH SOME PHOTOSHOP EDITING IT CAN RESULT VERY NICE AS IT WOULD STAND OUT, EPSECIALLY BECUASE AS THE MOVIE WILL BE VERY DARK, THE TITLES WILL BE VERY BRIGHT.

film magazine front cover. 1. research
Film magazine front cover.
1. As my trailer is considered to be an horror I decided to analyse paranormal activity as it results similar to my trailer. movies is very similar in the choices of font, colour and image.
Font: the font used for the movie title and the company credits is very clear and simple. For the paranormal activity the font used was kautiva. The title has been slightly photo shopped and few details have been added. The title is fuzzy, out of focus, static/interference and it can be made with adobe after effects.
Colour and image : in the posters of the movies similar to
Mine, colours are always very dark most of the poster is black and the main picture usually represents a scary shot of the film.
the title is always very visible as it is written with very bright colours. Around the poster there are scary phrase such as “don’t watch it alone !”. colours and images are especially made to transmit a sensation of fear and suspense.
In most of these posters reviews from main newspapers and websites are shown.
Marketing campaign: paranormal activity campaign was structured on for main pillars which enabled the movie to have an incredible success.
· Let consumers dictate distribution. Once "Paranormal Activity" reaches 1 million Demands on its Eventful page, Paramount will release the movie within a reasonable radius of all the fans who demanded the movie by providing their age and zip code
· Don't waste money on large-scale TV campaigns when you can talk directly to your fans. using social media as a marketing vehicle as well as a market-research vehicle.
· Don't create false hype. Ten years ago, "The Blair Witch Project" struck gold with one of the most successful viral movie marketing strategies to date by trying to pass itself as a documentary rather than a fictional horror movie. "Paranormal Activity's" theatrical trailer and TV spots are focused more on marketing the audience's terrified reactions to the movie itself.
· When there are low financial barriers, have fun. "Paranormal Activity" cost a mere $15,000 to produce, with little spent thus far on traditional media, so Paramount stands to recoup any overhead costs thousands of times over if the film catches on with a national audience.

sound track and non diegetic sound
i have done research through the web and found many intersting sound track and non diegetic sounds for my trailer. the website i mainly used was freeplaymusic.com as the music available there has no copyright and furthermore it is possible for me to use it in my trailer without breaking the law.
editing in progress
I made 2 screenshot of the editing process of my movie. i will be using adobe premier elements 9 for most of my editing. thanks to this programm i will be able to insert transaction , voice overs, soundtrack etc. i will also be able to cut undesired scenes. this programm is very efficent but it is complicated to use and being able to use it at its max capability is a real challenge!
FILMING COMPLETED
this are some exclusive shots of my trailer. I decided to upload them in the bloag in order to give an update of how my coursework is proceeding. soon the editing will be finished and the trailer will be ready .
